I suspect that it smells like his/her "Human" and the cat's thinking like a combo of "This smells of you" and also "You need this" and also "I want to put my own imprint on it".  Just some guesses.

    Just what it says. The guy was gone for 3 days. Apparently this cat does this kind of thing all the time, though it's more impressive coming down the stairs.

I didn't see any news beyond very basic...which (unless it is in the comments) didn't include yours.   I just saw "Cat Happy Welcome".  Were/are there subtitles?

     No, the guy strung together a bunch of cat welcomes, so I figured the point is that's what he does.
