Greetings!

GMG member Anne recently contacted me, saying she had disappeared in past months because of problems signing in with her password and various other things.

Anne wrote:

QuoteEvery time the registration place would give me time to sign in.  The bb said my password was incorrect again.  Next, it said I had overstayed my time here and I couldn't use the facilities.  This was repeated again and again.

QuoteMany times I had wished there was someone from inside the BB that I could talk to.  Maybe the owner could help me with the problem.

I have her regular e-mail address, if one of the moderators wants to contact her directly.

Next is an unsolved mystery: readers probably recall GMG member John, a Scotsman, who  in the late winter and early spring was working on movie script about Hans Rott.

He wrote on various topics, and was in contact with me about Hans Rott and other things.  For some reason, all communication ceased back in April, and the last time he visited GMG was on May 19th.

Any information on what happened to him?

Best Wishes!

Goodness!  I hope both John is indeed OK.  Let's hope to hear from him soon.

I remember Anne, and hope the issue of her login can be resolved.   :)

John is also a friend of mine on Facebook, but he does not communicate at all, not a single word. I know he had some very difficult times in his personal life, so maybe thats bothering him. However I will send him a message again, and we will see.

Regarding Anne, on the main login screen (not just the login prompt at the top of the main screen) there is a "forgot my password" link which will ultimately let you get your password reset and/or mailed to your regular e-mail account.

I am concerned about John.  Just before he vanished he said he was going to embark on a project of listening to Schoenberg (perhaps scary in itself).  I also recall that he had recently gone through the ordeal of losing all of his CDs in a fire, moving to another town, and moving back.  Sounds like a lot of stress, and I' hope he's ok.  I would think the site administrator (maybe moderators as well) would have access to his email address and could drop him a line.

I don't want be to seen as a grumbler, but why would someone whose account is still intact and about whose whereabouts there is no definite information, be labelled as a former member? ;)

There have been a few terms when John went quiet, only to return later in his enthusiastic and humorous self that we are used to seeing here. They were usually caused by personal issues, one of which was the fire accident in his flat.

Navneeth

"Seemingly" former members: Anne is trying to reconnect, but John's silence has been disturbing me, since I was working with him on the Rott project, and have his regular e-mail address, which also has gone silent.

Schoenberg claims another victim?!   ;D

Thanks for to Harry for trying the Facebook connection!

It seems as if our Moderators solved the log-in problems for Anne fairly quickly!

Yay team!   8)

John's disappearance remains curious, but let us hope he is not really a "former" member!

I have e-mailed John to his private address. Hopefully he will respond and all is well.

I tried his facebook but no reaction, while he accepted me as a friend a month ago.

Several days ago I sent him an airmail letter via the U.S. Post Office!

It should be there by Friday or Saturday: we will see if the address is still valid, and if the letter provokes a response.

No new developments?

What I may add in this, John accepted two days ago a friend on Facebook, which means he was on line. Maybe he simply does not want to communicate at the moment.

He holds a grudge after we recommended he listen to Schoenberg?   :(

Very disturbing. Also, Barak (André) disappeared the day after I uploaded Klemperer's Mahler Seventh for him (the final movement). He sent me a PM thanking me and then....nothing (March 30th). The Bruckner thread hasn't been the same.

Sarge
the phone rings and somebody says,
"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

One by one, they disappear without a trace.  Sounds like the plot of a Dan Brown model.  The idea that one of us could get a life is too absurd to contemplate, however.   ;D
