You can save a lot of things - save the money.
Any so-called free choice is only a choice between the available options.

If someone really wants to save money then 1. stop buying physical media and 2. cancel all streaming subscriptions. In other words, enjoy what you already own in your collection. Thankfully, number 2 isn't an issue, but number 1 is at the moment. I'm trying to buy less, but I keep coming upon a recording that I don't own but want.

There is much discussion of a crisis in the CD industry. However, the labels continue to release exciting recordings that I find difficult to resist, even though I possess enough CDs to keep me busy for more than the rest of my life. I have ceased trying to resist.

It's a great bargain - at Presto price, works out to about 50p per disc.  You get the whole of Delitiæ Musicæ's Monteverdi and Gesualdo madrigal sets, just for starters, which would cost more than the whole box if bought individually.  The only feature I think is a bit cheeky is to include a couple of compilation discs ("The Glory of Early Music", "The World of Early Music") whose contents also appear on full discs elsewhere in the collection.

No, there's only one CD each from the Monteverdi and Gesualdo sets in that box. (I have all three.)

I mostly save money by staying home and listening to music instead of going out and doing far more expensive things.

I mean, for a few months last year I wasn't listening to music very much. And at the same time I was blowing my wallet in Spain and Portugal. Coincidence? I think not.

How right you are - I was confusing Naxos's "Early Music Collection" with their, er, "Early Music Collection" - i.e. this particular box with their series of the same name: https://www.naxos.com/EditionSeries/Detail/?title=Early_Music_Collection (which has rather more than 30 discs in it :-[ ).  Apologies to you, @Anooj - although glad you're happy with it anyway.

Now that I'm a streamer, the only thing I buy in any quantity are the huge artists boxes. If I want to explore the recordings of a certain performer or ensemble the big box allows me to focus, in contrast to the wild goose chase of trying to find all of the recordings to stream.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

This depends on the details. If streaming costs $150/year and I don't buy any recordings this would be quite cheap compared to some years around 2005-10 when I probably spent > EUR 1000/year for CDs. But nowadays I don't spend $150/year as I buy much less than 15 years ago and usually very cheap used discs.
Sure, it's a fraction of the amount of music I could listen to via streaming. But I have already more music than I can practically listen to with maybe 2h/day and I don't like paying for stuff I cannot keep.

True. I could not spend another single penny on music the rest of my life and be a very happy man just enjoying what I already have.

But, ironically, what would be the fun in that? 😂😱

Ohhhhh it will if you keep to the regime as I do, not to buy CD'S anymore. But I have to confess I came awfully close to buying the complete Grieg box with solo piano works by Eva Knardahl on BIS. JPC priced it down to 39,95 euros', but I said, "Must not do, Must not do" Sigh...... :-\

Streaming doesn't save me money. It saves me worry, wondering whether I was right to trust reviews (back in the day it was mainly the Penguin Guide) when selecting which recording to buy.

And I say that not having the super-skepticism about reviews that many people here seem to have. I still find reviews incredibly useful, but streaming means I get to try out a recording and see what I think of it, or even of the music. This week has been the result of finding out I rather like Mozart serenades and divertimenti.

To put it another way, it's not about saving money but about ensuring good VALUE for money.

(Same as how my house wasn't cheap, but 3 years on I still think it was a good choice of house)
