I think this is all the Copland I'll ever need. OTOH, it is rather convenient to have it all in this set, with the added allure of the original covers.

I'm not sure, but I think almost everything Copland wrote is included in that set except Grohl and some of the film scores. And some of it is done more than once...

Actually I was curious about that, and before buying the box I compared its content to a listing I found on the net of his complete works, and this is what I found. The works in the box are marked in boldface. (I first missed two entries in the final section, but then the quick edit did not seem to allow adding boldface, so I had to write BOLD in letters after the entries.)

@akebergv
Thanks for that!
Although I seem to remember the Orchestral Variations are included in the set.
The recording of The Tender Land is an abridged version.

Yes I could have missed those. I did not spend hours on it nor intend it for publication.

Presto order!

Btw the Byrd Belder set is way discounted right now.  I had it in my cart but I would go over budget.

👍 I finished listening to the Elgar-Barbirolli just yesterday (Gerontius). Everything in it is just magical. One of the best compendiums of a composer's work ever issued.

André

This is a new, different version of the Berlioz. Lemieux' earlier account was not satisfactory IMO. A friend has strongly recommended this new one, so here we are.

This is a live performance from Carnegie Hall, 1959. I wouldn't have taken a chance on it but after listening to a 7 min extract on YT I was satisfied that the sound was actually quite good, clear and wide ranging. Forrester's angel sent goosebumps all over. What a voice ! Another live Gerontius by Barbirolli with Vickers in the title role is my favourite version. I yet have to listen to the Svetlanov and McCreesh sets that are waiting in the pile...🫨

Excellent piece of research.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

I already know some of these works, but Yun's cd output is widely duplicated, so it's not like there was a ton of options - especially since JPC'S 'specials' are so short-lived: blink or sneeze and you have to wait another 2-3 years 🫣

Lovely, André. I bought this Yun box set a couple of years ago --- (10 CDs in all):

These two just arrived. I've kept the habit of buying recordings that I really like on disc.
I'm not sure if that is entirely rational behaviour, but there it is... 8)

Not rational no, emotional @Que  yes, understandable! I stopped altogether with buying CD'S, that saved me already thousands of euros, even if I consider the streamers I bought, plus cables, plus subscriptions, I will get even in 2 years, and start earning. Two years are almost over. Besides the space to store all those CD'S was running at a end.

In your case, you already had a collection big enough to last you a lifetime.. Streaming only adds infinite possibilities to that!

BTW I still have save a lot of money (and effort) - my purchases of discs has gone down 80% - 90%.

Great invention, streaming!

Try Glissées for solo cello. It's a superb piece available on various cds with good programs.
