Generation X the PAC-MAN players. I am part of that "younger" generation, but the art in question isn't to my liking at all.

As a bit of an aside, was the composer Sir George Dyson any relation to the creator of the Dyson vacuum cleaner?  I didn't see anything in Wiki (quickly looking) on the composer's entry page.

I wouldn't know, but I asked ChatGPT and here's what it answered:

Sir George Dyson, the English composer, and Sir James Dyson, the British inventor and entrepreneur, are not directly related. They come from different fields and do not share a close familial connection. Sir George Dyson (1883–1964) was known for his contributions to classical music, while Sir James Dyson (born 1947) is renowned for founding Dyson Ltd, a company famous for its vacuum cleaners and other innovative household products. The similarity in their surnames is coincidental, and there is no known familial relationship between the two individuals.

According to ChatGPT, the surname Dyson has Greek origin "Dennis" or "Dionysius." The surname isn't very common nor very rare in the UK.

Looks like they are not related, at least closely.

I finally have the ability to edit my signature again. But no, I've no idea what I want to say here right now.

After looking over their wiki pages, the truth is even more interesting. George, the composer, did have a scientist son - the rather eccentric physicist Freeman Dyson. As far as George and Freeman versus James, Wiki traces their families to separate counties of the UK as far as back as the late 1800s, making a close relation unlikely.

Quote from: Wendell_E on August 27, 2023, 01:53:13 AMI found a whole page of pictures from this series, apparently designs for an early (1790s) production of the opera by Joseph and Peter Schaffer. The quote with this picture is from the scene where Tamino's flute playing summons wild beasts. There are also pictures of the two Armed Men, who are similarly shady, but in suits of armor.

The phrase "wild beasts" is definitely a red flag in my book, knowing that the creatures were also slaves. I can imagine that they just wanted to portray something dark and disturbing, but even metaphor can be problematic. Thanks for doing some digging!
