The obvious interesting thing about John Holloway's Purcell fantasias is that he uses violins. The booklet makes the HIP case out, violins were an option, so that's that. The result is more dancing, and more lithe, than I expect in this music. So there's something new here to absorb.

The unique thing about Stefano Zanobini's newly released Tobias Hume CD is that he uses a viola d'amore. It sounds rather good actually! He gets some real psychological depth in the melancholy music too. Worth exploring I'd say.
