Ugh!

Dear all, after more than a few years in hiatus, exploring quite other musical genres, I am gradually drifting back into the realm of classical music, albeit never without my personal ecclectic twist.

A few of you were introduced to my work Assemblages around 2005, and I am pleased to say that it has finally been released and is available on Spotify, Itunes and eventually all your favorite digital sites ;)

The work is described in some more detail here:

The compositional technique I employed for this work enabled me to break the inherent limitations of the symphony orchestra at will, and include all sorts of exotic instruments, everyday objects, foley and samples of news reports and what not wherever and whenever I pleased, without having to take into account the practical-administrative challenges this would normally imply for an orchestra. Sadly, I find that creativity and innovation within this field is far too restricted, not only by tradition, but to an even larger degree by the production-wise constrains that face the modern symphony orchestra as a societal institution. In fact there are so many interesting works out there that are virtually almost never performed as a result, including Gunnar Sønstevold's A Litany in Atlanta, for jazzband, symphony orchestra, recitator and children's choir...

Want to include a jazzband alongside the symphony orchestra? Well, that implies that your chances of ever having your work performed are seriously reduced simply because it is more of a production hassle and cost. What if you  wanted a Gamelan orchestra in there, along with somebody performing on a creeky door, a bow-and arrow, as well as including a musical transcription of a newsreport alongside cartoon foley? Imagine the production nightmare....

In Assemblages, I made all this, and more, possible - albeit only for a recording of a work that will likely never be performed....
