Well, now the proceedings of this holy inquisition have started, here is my take.

I'm sure we could all find some album covers from the late '60s and early '70s that are risqué at best, and a bit raunchy and depicting women in a fairly dubious way at their worst.

One of us actually took the trouble to doing just that, and posted it - solely by way of provocation. The image was subsequently deleted... BIG deal, if you ask me.

Stirring the pot must be a very satisfying activity...

Quote from: Madiel on April 15, 2023, 09:12:55 PMIn saying that I fully recognise that the action was prompted in large part by the way the cover was being talked about - a poster practically begged a moderator to look at the image in a heightened state of anxiety. But as I've said several times now, that doesn't mean the cover is the problem. The tone of conversation is the problem. The same as the tone of conversation has been the problem every time the cover of a classical album with a woman on it has become the subject of an extended back and forth about the woman.

I think Madiel you hit the nail on the head.  I actually let pass another risque cover a few days before.  But I was in a heightened state, and I had the feeling that Mandryka was deliberately being provocative.

But you're right, that was not nor should it have ever been the core issue.  The core issue in the past few weeks has been the locker room talk.  We as a community need to cut that out.

Quote from: Madiel on April 15, 2023, 09:12:55 PMI similarly got no acknowledgement that something I said recently was not interpreted in the way that I intended and that there had been an overreaction to it. Sure, the posting restriction I was briefly placed under was withdrawn, but did anyone say "whoops"? No.

Whoops.  That was also my mistake, that was purely an accident.  I apologize for not telling you and apologizing for the mistake.

The pattern here is that I personally need to be better about communicating.  And I will work on that.

I appreciate the civil discourse that we have had, and that we all want what we each think is best for the forum.  I hope that we can set aside this current drama.

Well, no. I am the culprit for all that, not Mandryka --- blame it on me and me only. If I had not quoted Mandryka's post (which I did in an entirely humorous, innocuous, banter-ish way) not even half of the whole kerfuffle would have taken place. I take full responsibility and apologize.

Well it's displaying perfectly in your post...

It came from a Google website: so it is something of a hassle to find the emoticon in that fashion, rather than having it listed with the emoticons here, which would be much easier.

While less easy than if it were on a menu here, I keep a Google doc with some elements I frequently use  😇

Good idea, especially if The Very Useful Angel never returns here!

Only someone with administrative access to the forum software can add emojis.  That means that the ball is in Rob's court.

I have to go to my iMac's Safari's toolbar to find these two (well, three if you include the fish!):  👼😇🐠

FWIW, not that I'm crushed, I have no emoticon bar here at all (posting this from my laptop.

I suppose that I could use it in the "What are you eating now" thread?  I'd be more likely though to use:  🍣 or 🍤.  ;D

Most peculiarly, this thread showed carrying new content, though it seems the latest is June of last year.
