Clocking in at 4 hours, this film was a wonderful watch. I applaud both the wonderful setting, and the courageous Ms Beart who is naked during almost the whole feature  :o

Yes, I remember that one was quite good. Don't know if I'd venture watching it again though (well, it's 4 hours you know... :P).

I have only seen Ms Beart in one movie...."Un coeur en hiver".  A fabulous movie...soundtrack of  Ravel Music
Trio for piano violin and cello
sonata for violin and cello
sonata for violin and piano
berceuse sur le nom de Gabriel Faure
The music was fabulous but I found it hard keeping my eyes off of her. She is really beautiful....

Very true!

All the other films directed by Claude Sautet that I've seen were excellent too (and I've seen quite a few - I was hooked on the director for a while ;D). Though this one definitely has the best soundtrack... ;)

Haffner

Gates of Hell (Lucio Fulci/Christopher George)

I love horror movies, but this is easily the worse by the otherwise acclaimed gore-horror legend Fulci. There are two or three gorey scenes (the same, at times disturbingly sadistic kind that Fulci is famous for) which make this borderline worth seeing... there is undeniable shock value.

But, for movies with at least slightly better acting and MUCH better stories, grab "The Beyond" and "Zombie".

Don Giovanni

I've never been much of a fan of horror movies. I've never seen much point in them.

I notice that people like me tend to collect things like horror movies; it could quite probably be due to the fact of my inherent weirdness.

Maciek

I love horror movies. Including Fulci, Argento and the like. And I'm not weird, Andy. Not the slightest bit. No, not at all. At all, I tell you. ::)

I don't know.  I'm definitely an odd one and I strongly dislike horror movies.

Then again, I'm also rather paranoid so that may have something to do with it...

karlhenning

I'm not paranoid, nor do I enjoy horror movies.

Harvested Sorrow

But you aren't weird, Karl.

...Alright, that may be debatable. ;D

After seeing the commentary in this thread I just found and watched Andrei Rublev (found one with English sub-titles).  Definitely like nothing I'd seen before, and I'm glad to have watched it.  I'm sure there were some metaphors in there for life in the Soviet Union that I missed, though, not having much familiarity with that period.

Lilas Pastia

Well, one metaphor that need not particular expertise in soviet history is Rublev's robe taking fire as he peeps on two young lovers doing their thing in the bushes!  :D
