A truly outstanding piano recital that's given me much pleasure - including a crisp, clean, but unabashedly hyper-virtuosic romp through Petrushka, a barnstorming La valse, and mercifully non-barnstorming Debussy images plus two well-articulated Scarlatti sonatas and a premiere by Daniel Mateos (1977-). If you live in the UK, it's three pounds from NaxosDirect, as are a whole lot of decent albums in their Summer Sale (like world premieres of newly discovered Martinu piano scores).

Their sale seems less absurd this time - Dacapo discs for £3 each last time were amazing, but now they're just half price (and oddly most of the sale items remain the same - did they really have THAT many of just these discs, and the rest are all in more normal quantities after a year of the overstock being on sale? Meh).

Not to mention the time when we got to hoard gigantic box sets (plus the complete Poulenc chamber music) for $3 a pop.

Pludermacher's set of Beethoven Sonatas is available as MP3s for download from Amazon (at least Amazon US) for US $15.98.

The same set is also available from Berkshire Record Outlet for $40 as CDs.

I hesitated which to get, then opted for the CDs since I tend to favor lossless compression for my music, though I am not sure the probably inaudible difference justifies the price difference.

Ironically I was at the physical location of Berkshire Record Outlet yesterday but did not pick up the discs (would have saved $10 in shipping and taxes) since I did not know they had them.

This links to the CD version BTW

Just out of curiosity, where is B&M store of Berkshire Record Outlet located?
Somewhere in western MA, Pittsfield?

Actually Lee, MA. Two towns south of Pittsfield. They are mostly a warehouse but have a small retail area adjoining the warehouse. They have one copy of some of their discs (they don't have all on display) in a number of bins. You grab it then take it to the desk, and they promptly replace it in the bins. Fairly low tech and old fashioned actually. I was going home from a Tanglewood open rehearsal that morning. Tanglewood is in Lenox which sits between Pittsfield and Lee.

Sincerely,

Hany.

Thanks.  I am somewhat familiar with the general area and have been there a number of times - my sister and brother in-law used to have a ski condo in Jiminy Peak and my wife was hoping to buy a vacation home nearby until I stopped her - just before the housing crash - whew!

BRO is indeed incredibly low-tech.  You need to look no further than its website that shows no CD covers and while its search engine works, it is not exactly the most effective either ...

This set

is now at 11 Euros at

http://www.amazon.de/Legendary-Russian-Pianists-Kissin/dp/B001TEKI6C/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1313393199&sr=1-1
While it looks very tempting I already have this

which already has Gilels, Richter, Kissin and Berman.

The set is only 25 CDs so am I going to be paying for material that I already have too much of?

Cheers

I believe it's one CD per pianist. I have the Russian Legends box set too (one of my best purchases ever) and also have the Igumnov Tchaikovsky, but some of those - Yudina, Nikolayeva, Feinberg, Ashkenazy, Demidenko, Gavrilov - are pretty tempting. Why is Postnikova listed twice? Are there really two of them?

OK, can someone guide me through Amazon.de? I have an account at Amazon.com but don't think it's transferable to their German counterpart. I know that LOS means go and while I have a smattering of German I am struggling to complete an order. All I have done so far is added the box to my cart.
Cheers

The accounts should be transferable. I registered at one amazon and fund my password etc viable on all amazons. When you have the disc in the Einkaufswagen, you should press Zur Kasse Gehen and will be prompted for your logon password.

I've always found my account transferrable between all the amazon sites. Try this:

On the main page, click Einkaufswagen (shopping cart). On the left side of the next page, click the blue link called Heir anmelden (log in here). On the next page type in your email address and your password and click the yellow button called Weiter. That will take you to your "shopping cart." You should be able to use the 1 click option since you're now logged in. Click Jetzt mit 1 click kaufen. That will take you to a page that says Vielen Dank. Ihre 1-Click Bestellung wird bearbeitet. (Thank you, your 1 click order is being processed.) That's it. If your item isn't in your shopping cart after you log in, go find the item again and simply use the 1 click option.

Edit: Just saw Erato's post. That's easier than my convoluted way  ;D

Thanks. Nabbed them. I usually prefer lossless compression or CDs, but it is very hard to resist at this price.

Sincerely,

Hany.

Yeah I checked the flacs at eclassical but there was no discount over there.

Always on the lookout for unusual reportoire, I have had my eye on the 10 cd set of Rheinberger piano music from Carus. I first saw it on jpc for 50 euros which, for me, is rather a lot to pay for a shot in the dark. Amazon UK then had it for a tad over £40 but astonishingly it is now listed for £16.39. I have taken the plunge. Should anyone else be interested here is the link:

That kind of thing is right up my alley, thanks for the pointer :)

Yes thanks here too! I'm not sure how I will like 10 discs of his piano music (I liked some of a double disc of his orchestral music, recently purchased), which is quite a lot. But at that price, perhaps worth a shot! You can find excepts from jpc. It's here: http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/Joseph-Rheinberger-1839-1901-Das-Klavierwerk/hnum/1155122
Be kind to your fellow posters!!
