Curses, Moonfish.  I don't have one actual Wagner CD (except for highlights type).  How could I let this go (even if I really don't care much for Wagner, despite occasionally getting worked up watching the Ring on DVD)? Oh well, it truly is a SDCB.  It's worth having it on the shelf.

I am not a Wagnerian but that box looks a pale shadow of the DG box, or the Decca Bayreuth box which I have. I am content with one each for Wagner, except the Ring.  The negative Azon review looked convincing to me too.

  Yeah, that was an impulse buy on my part.  Went back and cancelled both.  I really have plenty of Wagner on my hard drive (but not on CD), which I try to listen to from time to time.  I keep almost becoming a fan, but...

  Definitely. But I actually already have 2/3 of it, in different but good versions that I haven't absorbed yet.  Also, the shipping for one item fro Amazon.de is pretty steep .  No, time to put on the brakes

Yes, the DG and EMI (Warner) Wagner boxes definitely have better renditions and selections of the Wagner operas, but it always fun to hear other performances....  ; -)   Besides, the Janowski cycle is not a bad one if one wants a starting point to move into the Nibelungen realm (good to very good with excellent sound).

They subtract the VAT but seem to have a sliding scale on shipping the items depending on weight in contrast to Amazon.uk.   Large/bulky items such as a megabox cost more etc etc. Overall, I am pleased with Amazon.de. Items arrive very quickly to the US (often less than a week) and the S&H are acceptable. At least that is my experience.

Generally L2 or L3 per item shipping, but it might vary a bit. Boxes always end up less shipped that the sticker price due to VAT elimination.

This is basically the only reason that box intrigues me as well. As far as I know it is the same recording. Check the other release of this performance, which also lists the Munchener Vokalsolisten:

The only thing that annoys is me that it seems that a small part was cut from the performance in order to fit it on one cd (based on comments from Amazon reviewers). That still seems to be the case here.

Thanks guys for shipping info, and Drosera for the Sawallisch footwork.  I am disappointed to hear about those cuts.  The only Rossini MESSE I know is also a single disc (King/Hyperion), but it pushes up against the limits of its container (79+ min).
