Quote from: Spotted Horses on November 22, 2024, 07:05:03 AMIt has been standing at 98% contained for a while with no change in the size of the burn area; some steep mountain sides that are difficult to deal with I suppose. But it is pretty much out, with some firefighters patrolling to be sure there are no smoldering areas that could re-ignite if strong wind returns.

Rain will of course be welcome, the wet season is here and we are overdue for our first rain.
Good to hear!

Yesterday was a nice rainy day here.  We might get some more tomorrow and Tuesday (which would be welcome with the exception of heavy downpours--which just turn into runoff and can also cause flooding).

So has the rain and storm damage been mostly to the north of you?  How much rain, etc. have you received in your area?

Yes, most of the serous weather has been north of MP.

We were forecast to get up to 3/4" of rain with some gusty wind, and it's been raining for several hours now. But it's not been severe at all thus far ( fine with me, I don't want to lose power here ).

We had our first freeze this morning. It came quite late. The entire season has been unseasonably warm. My only complaint is that the sun sets so early now that I can't take advantage of the nice weather.

Last night was the first night of the season here (S Fla) in which the overnight temperature fell below 70F. It actually went into the mid50s, with the high today a bit over 70.

The days getting shorter is one of the many downsides to winter imo. It seems that no sooner than the blinds are opened in the morning that they're being shut again for the night. If it ever became possible, the idea of an annual migration south for the season is a very appealing one indeed ...

Of course, I'll go to the forest, chop some wood, and light a fire next to a samovar filled with vodka. Oh, wait, the Kremlin dreamers haven't yet ruined life in Ukraine, though they're trying. For now, everything's fine. In any case, Putin manages to cause far less damage than his predecessor, Hitler. Odessa and other major Ukrainian cities that were not occupied suffered incomparably less than London in the Blitz months or Coventry, Rotterdam and Warsaw.

The temperature is normal for late Nov. As for heating, we have autonomous water heating in the house, and the fireplace, which is more for aesthetics and atmosphere, is lit on special occasions. Like most of our neighbors, we also have backup power batteries that maintain electricity for several hours during outages caused by shelling. Therefore, we almost always have electricity, mobile communication, internet, and so on.

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, we are not living too badly, for example, there are no disruptions in food supplies. The civilized world is helping as best as it can, and even more. And we are helping the civilized world by holding back a horde of rapists and murderers.

Three cheers for that! When I was in school we thought the war would begin in Germany :'( .

Aware a puff of wing compared to what other countries endure but "Storm Darragh" hit the UK pretty hard this weekend. 90mph winds recorded in the west country and Wales. Not so bad in my neck of the woods but still a case of batten down the hatches.
Loss of life minimal. However, a star player of the football club I support and fan favourite, Michail Antonio was lucky to escape with his life when his car skidded and hit a tree. It took an hour for him to cut free from the wreckage, after which airlifted to hospital. How he escaped with just a leg fracture is a miracle but I think his playing career will be over.

Oh, boy!  I had heard that a bad storm had hit the UK.  Last that I had heard/read was that thousands were without power?

Glad that you are o.k.  Sorry to hear about the footballer.  Glad that he survived!  Is he very old?  Hopefully the fracture wasn't that bad and that he'll recover quickly.

Temps are currently in the low to mid thirties and cloudy day.

Mid December and we've only had a pair of days of light rain in November here in Coastal California. Nothing in December and another red flag wind warning coming up. I'm starting to get worried.

Eek!  :( Any rain(s) in the horizon?

We've had some good rainy days, but we're still down in terms of precipitation for this year.

Off to fix some coffee and relax for a few minutes then back to finish decorating the tree, more dusting, etc., and then need to make my "nests" for my ornamental birds and swag for the front door.  How come some days it feels like I'll be cleaning and decorating until Christmas itself?  🧐

Nothing in the forecast at the moment. Rain often comes in big deluges, so we can catch up fast. There was a big storm that missed our region, bring a lot of precipitation to Northern California.

Oooch. 40 miles off, but we frequently drive on that road when we visit Malibu Creek State Park or Malibu Lagoon. Up the hill from the Pepperdine University campus. The current wind event seems a lot less severe than the previous, so hopefully it won't be as difficult to control.
