I'm doing fine, blue skies. Fire activity has been confined to Los Angeles country.

The Palisades fire and the Eaton fire have been catastrophic. Both have been pushed out of the hills into suburban subdivisions with huge property loss. The wind event has tapered off and the spread of the fires is no longer explosive, so I expect the worst has been done.

I don't want to know what will happen when my homeowner's insurance is up for renewal next fall.

If you want to track fires like a real Californian, you can visit the Cal Fire site,

https://www.fire.ca.gov

You can scroll down a bit and click on one of the active incidents listed to see a map of fire activity.

Glad that you are in good shape.  I did check out Malibu's (city's) website and could see that some areas had evacuation orders and that some didn't.

Hopefully the winds won't pick up soon though I think that I heard something different, but am not certain.  And thanks for the link.  And, yes, I've heard that a number of people's homeowner insurance in the area have been cancelled.  Am keeping my fingers crossed for you...and for the firefighters, police, and others battling the fires and trying to protect and save people and properties.

No more CNN for a while ....  :(

Weird weather in my area...no snow nor rain in the forecast.   :(

Here in Dallas we've had about an inch of snow over the last 24 hours and they closed the whole darn city down both yesterday and today for it  ;D  ;D

It's really strange how some areas react to snow (which they don't regularly receive)--like our nation's capital--3 to 4 inches causes chaos!  I realize that probably a lot of people there don't know how to drive on snow and am sure that DC does not have a lot of snow plows (and drivers).

Must admit, my back is happy not shoveling!

Wednesday PM/ Thursday AM was apparently the coldest night in 2 years in South Florida: temperatures got down to the mid/upper 40sF.
No snow and no cataclysmic fires so I have no reason to complain.
But I believe we've gotten far less rain this winter than usual, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get some brushfires in the Everglades before spring is over.

I've never thought of brush fires there before due to all of the water; has this happened before?  :(

Quite a bit but never as bad as other places. If the winter isn't very rainy, the sawgrass and marshland dry out, and fires can start easily. But because it's mostly out west or south of the developed sections, homes and businesses aren't normally imperilled.

Last I checked, we were listed as being in "Severe drought".  Temps are warmer today...we received a bit of snow, but little more than a dusting.  Grateful though that I'm not having to deal with fires.  Just heard a story about a young couple who had saved up for their first home, had decorated and prepared a nursery (wife's due to deliver their son in about a week); their home is gone.

I used to live in Silver Spring, Montgomery county Maryland (D.C. suburbs) and I am still in the water company email list. I got an email saying that water restrictions are in effect, no nonessential water use, because the frigid weather has caused water main breaks on a huge scale. huh? The temperature is only a few degrees below freezing. What is happening to the infrastructure of this country?

We really need to upgrade it.  :(  It's happening in some places, but not in enough and too slowly me thinks.  :'(  I wish that I knew the answers to all of it.

I saw a report that there was a small fire (the Lachman fire) in Pacific Palisades started by people who set off fireworks on New Years Eve. The fire was extinguished in a few hours. The Palisades fire seems to have originated at the same location, and a plausible but unproven theory is that smoldering embers of the first fire ignited the Palisades fire.

Seasonable. Since our four inches of snow fell, the thermometer has gone back and forth between slightly higher than freezing, to 20°

😕☹️  I don't know what to say.  I hope that that wasn't the case--nor arson.  Hard to watch the stories of people losing their homes/condos/apartments from all walks of life.  Whole neighborhoods/communities no longer exist--though I've seen wonderful stories of people trying to help each other.

How are the winds and fires these days?

On Friday morning, we received some nice snowfall of course overnight it brought freezing rain, which lasted a better part of the night. Saturday was somewhat better, but still not safe enough to drive out or I certainly didn't feel safe as I have zero experience with driving in the snow and I'm proud of that fact. Of course, I missed work Friday and Saturday, but went back Sunday with no problem.

Now, from what I understand, there's another arctic front moving in later on in the week with the possibility of precipitation. Hopefully, it misses us and we're in the clear.

It sure was a beautiful sight while it lasted, though just as long as you're not out there in it. ;)

Thank you and I think I'm done changing it for now. ;)
