Posted this a while ago on the Kenneth Leighton thread. I wonder if any other composers have "doubles".
Any suggestions?

Just bought a CD of Leighton's 1st Symphony - the first of his music I've purchased - opened the jewelcase and there was the star of The Prisoner staring back at me; quite a surreal moment.................worthy of the cult TV series itself! Not had chance to hear the Symphony yet so I'll report back in due course - if I'm not eaten by one of those big blobby balloon things first!

The obvious one.......
I've been told that I have a pretty good resemblance to
Alexander Glazunov.
Not quite as good as some posted here -- especially the Leighton and Zemlinsky -- but these were the personalities I was reminded of when I saw the composers' pictures for the first time.
I notice a certain similarity between Wolfgang Rihm (left) and Mark Tully (https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Mark_Tully).

Little known fact: Although "The Addams Family Theme Song" has become one of Sibelius's most beloved compositions, he doubted that the world was ready for it and very nearly burned it late in life. Fortunately he grabbed the manuscript of of the Eighth Symphony by mistake and tossed it into the fire instead.

This one is very funny :)
What a fun topic! Particularly liked the Zemlinsky one, they look close to exactly the same!
I've always thought my head teacher at school looks exactly like Sibelius...
I'll see if I can find a picture...

He had a habit of introducing himself with

Oh, besides that: I like Ben Turpin.
If this means I'm not intelligent, so be it. Is it intelligent to 'discuss' composer-look-alikes on the internet?
(Nietzsche sold a lot of funny crap, too. Besides that: I like him. He loved horses. Although that might be just another funny story.)

What about that Dmetri guy and Harry Potter? Lol
Sir Robert Birley (1903 - 1982) was an educationalist and Headmaster of Eton College. Despite being a pillar of the establishment he acquired the nickname 'Red Robert'. According to Wikipedia this was because his mildly liberal politics caused disquiet; I read a different account several years ago in a review of biography.
Shortly after the end of WW2 Birley was sent to Germany to help reconstruction in the British Zone. He had a visitor from London who was alarmed to see a portrait of Karl Marx on his office wall; he said nothing but word soon got round back in London that Birley had turned communist, hence the nickname. In fact, Birley was temporarily using a colleague's office and the portrait was of Johannes Brahms. Nevertheless, the silly nickname stuck (probably as a joke).
