Quote from: vandermolen on July 27, 2024, 04:01:57 AMSo I hear (from the other Johan!) ;D
Always good to hear from you and congratulation on your second novel. The two Johans are clearly both very accomplished authors! I just content myself with the occasional obscure CD booklet note and by writing letters to The Times! ;D
Hey! I now know someone who still writes letters to the Times!

@Bachtoven asked me to share that he's been unable to post for at least a week due to the inability to log in and is waiting for the Dungeon Master to solve the problem.

What? He told me that on July 26, after Rob intervened, he successfully changed his password. ???

I'm back! DavidW deleted my old account and created one that did not require a confirmation email--seems to be a larger and ongoing problem. Anyway, many thanks to DavidW!

Welcome back :)

That was certainly a frustrating experience. I always select "Stay Logged in Forever," but about a week ago I was suddenly logged out. When I tried to log in, I got a "Password not correct" message. I tried a few more times then tried to change my PW. I never received a link to do so. Then, I got a message stating I had attempted to login too many times! Dungeon Master changed my PW, which worked for a few hours, then all of the other problems arose again. As previously mentioned, DavidW thought it would be best if he deleted my account without the need for confirmation of the new one. Whew! I'd still like to know what happened in the first place. So, many thanks to Karl Henning, DavidW, and Dungeon Master for their efforts.

Did you mass delete cookies from your browser? That will log you out.
But it shouldn't keep you from logging back in

But glad to see you here.

Honestly, it sounds a bit like your account / email was somehow compromised or corrupted.

Strange things can happen. I just found out today that a charity I donate to has apparently managed to fuse my details with those of another person with the same name. Possibly up to 6 years ago, but it's taken until quite recently for the details to actually clash in a meaningful way (he got a tax receipt for my donations, so I didn't get a tax receipt and made enquiries).

I had -more or less- the same experience last week. Microsoft Internet security warned me about the possible misuse of my GMG password. I wanted to reset the password but that proved to be impossible. I checked firewall, my G Data security....No problems were detected.
I never received the necessary reset mail. Sending a message through the contact form proved equally impossible.
Fortunately, after contacting Rob personally,  a new password was sent.  Thanks!
...I have no idea what happened or what might cause the problems.

I didn't receive the email when I set up a dummy account a few weeks back.  It is a problem with the forum and not any individual. :-\

I looked at the member list and I see that the last new member was Freddie, July 1. Usually there are one or two a week.

Bachtoven's experience doesn't seem so strange to me. He could have fumbled the mouse and clicked "log out" without realizing it. If he mis-remembered his password it would lead to the predicament he described, given the failure of GMG's email system.

1) I didn't "fumble" anything.
2) I have my PWs written down, so no misremembering.
3) Before you mention it, I did not disable the site's ability to send reset links.  :)

Okay, now it sounds more likely to be connected with the security issues, where certain resources have decided the forum is bad.

Bachtoven's computer might have logged him out to rescue him from the forum. Clearly this desperate act has failed.

Apparently there was some stuff on the reading thread that had to be cleaned up last night. Don't know if it got personal.
