Mandryka

Is this one of the best Vers la Flamme, or is it one of the worst? Pietro Scarpini

Very fine.  It sounds so symphonic to me.  I hear it as a completely symphonic work.

"WOW, Bob, WOW!!!"

An amazing performance of an always amazing work!

I think Vladimir Horowitz called the piece an atomic bomb for the piano!

This performance is atomic!

Very well put! It's part of an all Scriabin concert which has been released in a set of mostly concertos - but I don't really "do" concertos, so I haven't bought it.

Pietro Scarpini is a top tier pianist, almost forgotten I guess. Try his Schumann, Humoreske.

Have you seen the Horowitz where he takes his jacket off to play it? He's such a sweetie!

A review on the recording in question.

That was excellent!  Apparently, others agree this is a piece that is symphonic in scope.  Here's a different orchestration by Arkady Leytush:

Vladimir Bakk is the real deal, spine tingling frissons in sonata 9. If anyone wants the transfer PM me.

The story is that he moved from USSR to the US of A and just couldn't find the life he wanted there, died frustrated and unfulfilled. No recording contract, hardly any pupils.  Great pianist though.
