Quote from: Dry Brett Kavanaugh on October 14, 2024, 07:32:31 AMOk, I must confess that Eleanor Rigby in Revolver for me.
The earliest present received which I still remember was a "close and play" phonograph. The single that came with it was "Eleanor Rigby" b/w "Yellow Submarine. Neither will ever be in contention for their best song ever, yet I still retain a fondness for them. My least favorite context for "Eleanor Rigby," really rubbing our noses in the maudlin element, is the film, Yellow Submarine.

She's Leaving Home and Eleanor Rigby?!  Oh, my heart!  Auuugggghhhh!

But that's me.  ;)

The arrangement of strings don't help. They are not subtle.

Honestly, the strings in "Eleanor Rigby" fascinated me from that early Close and Play era. I still like them.

For the strings (and the song), I like Good Night in white album.

O.k., so we'll have to disagree on some things and that's o.k.  On ER in particular, I remember feeling (in my younger days...Granny here speaking  ;) ), thinking "Wow!"  And being so moved by the song--to tears.

I've got to confess to a comparable impact back when. Any quarrel I have with the song today, let's chalk up to accumulated history on my part.

What does "accumulated history" here mean?

O.k. Well, I don't think George Martin was wrong here.  My opinion, I know.
