Here it is: Shazam on my MacBook correctly identified what's playing and who the artist is.

Brian

Shazam has a much, much deeper archive of music to compare the sound to. My phone's in-built system seems to only store some kind of top 500-1000 and often doesn't even know, say, a Beatles B side. But if Shazam does not know something - even a solo in a jazz blowing session - I find it cause to celebrate.

Listening to Glenn Gould on Bach's French Suites 4-6. I was enjoying it quite a bit. But: Is it just me, or am I hearing talking? Or maybe that's the infamous Gould humming? I don't like it. It's distracting. I kept pausing the music to see if I was hearing people outside walking by.

I got tired of whatever it was Gould was doing in the background.

I switched to Perahia on the No. 4 - it sounds great, but it felt really slow.

Then I switched to Ashkenazy, which I am playing now. He feels like a compromise between the two. I like it.  :-\

While I have by no means heard his extensive discography, I've found Ashkenazy highly satisfactory in practically every recording of his I've heard.

Ditto,

Whether he's playing or conducting,  Ashkenazy seems to always deliver the goods.

I'll probably skip it as I'm attending a matinee concert this afternoon, followed by dinner with my best friends.

It'll most likely be a Tuesday breakfast this week.  ;)

A local community chorus which l occasionally sang with for many years is performing Orff's Carmina Burana, the dual-piano and percussion version. I've sung it myself, most recently in 2018.

I still support the ensemble by attending some of their performances, and at any rate my friends are involved, which is reason enough to go.  8)

That's one of those works which I enjoy better as a participant than as an audience member, though I would go in support of friends, too.

Yesterday my phone correctly identified Clair de lune...and said it was by Johann Debussy!

Whereas it should obviously have said Klaus.

Is that a mark on Hilary's neck from the fiddle? Are such things common? I never thought to notice before.

Yes, cradling the instrument in your neck does that.

It should have been obvious, but I guess I never saw a pic from that angle on an artist after a long concert.

Re Hilary Hahn: She used to use a towel around the chin rest, but I don't think she does any more.

Can you think of any reason why this Mozart 40 is broken up into 13 parts? The only one I can think of is that Brilliant Classics is trying to generate more revenue -- as most streaming services pay by the number of tracks streamed.

They don't have it broken up like this on their compilation album of Mozart 39-41. That one has the symphonies all broken up into the usual 4 parts.

Anyway, just something random. . .

Santiago Rodriguez's Rachmaninoff Piano Sonatas are broken up into many more parts than the usual three on two different recordings. Beats me completely as to why.
