Are Disney Plus, Hulu and Max all owned by the same company?  I know that I've seen a discounted rate if you subscribe for Disney Plus(?) and ESPN (Plus, I believe).

Must admit, I do love my British shows--particularly the mysteries.

I wanted to cancel Hulu when the price went up last month, but darn it, I need to watch What We Do in the Shadows! (And maybe also Only Murders in the Building.)

The refusal of TV studios to release DVDs nowadays is another way they keep us hooked to streaming fees.

On Disney+, the newest series called THE RIVALS.

With David Tennant, that Poldark fella (Aiden turner), Danny Dyer, Katherine Parkinson.

Based on a steamy-rom(romp)-com novel by Jilly Cooper, set in a fictitious borough of the very posh Cotswolds region and within its regional TV company. during the Thatcherite 80's.

To use an expression favoured in this forum, It has the 3 B's.

That is: Hitching, Hackstabbing, Honking (I'll let you do the letter change  :P ).

You'll know within the first five minutes if that's your sort of things but it actually gets so much better than that.

It is hilariously funny but some touching, very dark and hard-hitting storylines are intertwined too and make it all the more gripping.
Brilliant acting all round and my, some really punchy dialogues.

Tennant is a terrifying piece of work.

Trash maybe but a delicious and a high quality piece of. A thrilling 80's soundtrack to boot too.

The lead actress in Call the Midwife (Jessica Raine) looked very familiar. I finally realized she played Lady Rochford in Wolf Hall. Also in the cast are Jenny Agutter and Judy Parfitt.

So far after 4 episodes I'd say the superstar is Chummy (Miranda Hart).

I am probably not going to renew my D+ right now, since Agatha All Along has finished. But I will say that DT is always worth watching, no matter what else happens in the show.

Disney owns almost all of Hulu. Time Warner owns Max, and if they merged I don't want to know because that would mean that Disney has a monopoly on all TV and movies. Hoping not, refusing to google.

Only saw the first two series (out of 4), the ones where Kim Bosnia appears (he off Killing Eve). It was top notch. The interaction between the 2 main characters make the show, on top of its darkness and relentless tension.

This is an iconic series, one of the best. The concept has been repeated in several European series since. It's worth watching, but I wouldn't single it out against the overall very high standard of European cinema.

Next up: Ray Donovan

Only three episodes in, and this show is electric. Liev dominates every scene he is in, and Voight oozes scumminess - a true sleazeball.

The family dynamics all feel real, which I assume is the blessing of being on real network. Dialogue is tight, and the overall premise is an interesting one.

And, it has Frank Whaley!

I can easily see this show jumping the shark though, lol. :P

2 series on the go on Netflix:

- An Australian series "Upper Middle Bogan" on the single basis that it includes 2 actors from "Colin from Accounts" (Gordon and Yvette the Vet, circa 2013). They play a couple where she, a doctor, finds out accidentally she is adopted as her blood type can't match the one of her posh mother who has been hospitalised. She goes on to find out her biological family is more on the err, popular, side ( @Madiel Help !! How to describe bogans ? I know of them via a Miriam Margoyles' documentary on Australia and there was a lot of broken teeth and car racing and tyre burnouts   )

- The second series, I didn't see coming and am enjoying way more than I thought: Gilmore Girls. Funny, with some very sarcastic dialogues and repartees, also wholesome without being sappy. A very neat balance.

I have obviously a particular affection for Michel, the grumpy French receptionist at the inn Lorelei Gilmore manages. On the lookout also for Grant Lee Philips (one of my favourite artists, he of the band Grant Lee Buffalo) who makes several appearances as the Town troubadour over the 7 seasons. Gilmore Girls is one of my partner's favourite series (she watched it all at the time). I am now bingeing that with her from scratch 8)

Bogans... I guess it's our equivalent of rednecks.
