She recorded a lovely Debussy cello sonata with Jacques Rouvier on Denon.

I tried to translate the Danish expression "til skræk og advarsel", but expressions like this aren't always easy to translate.

"For frightening and warning" or something like that if translated litterally.

As far as I can see the only possibility in Europe is streaming.

Thank you for mentioning Mari Fujiwara. I am listening for her second set for two days already and like it.

If you like the sound of Fujiwara II's cello, then try one which really impressed me in 2018 when it was release - Rocco Filippini. There's a post I made about it on the link below  - I can't quote it - #118009. The interpretation is really different from Fujiwara II though.

Fujiwara II reminds me of the violist Jonathan Dunford. She doesn't create an atmosphere which you can let wash over you, she doesn't impress you with lots of attractive colours - but somehow she gets to the heart of it.

Rocco Filippini's 1st recording and his second are very different. While his first is like a greasy beef jerky, his second is like tofu and rice eaten by Zen monks.

I didn't know there was an earlier recording. Truth is, I'd never heard of him until the Fonè release, and I've never explored his work other than that -- just by oversight really.

Today's listen: Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Lluis Claret. I liked their performances and interpretations. But the sound quality of Harnoncourt is pretty bad. Also, whatever Fontfroid is, the recording sound of Claret has too much reverb and makes me tired.

Fontfroide is the venue, an abbey, and is probably naturally reverberant.  Once I got used to it, it was pleasing to me.

A new recording featuring a "5 string piccolo cello" for all 6 suites.

Returning to the topic of Anna Magdalena, Sollima writes that everything in that manuscript that "may seem like an oversight, missing or illogical, is instead the fruit of ingenuity, and of a concept of "internal" and perpetual variation." Does he stick to Anna Magdalena in the actual recording, though?

Well he says that he took, and continues to take,  AM as "the only reference" - so I guess he does.

No, the suites take two CD's as usual, but the third CD contains some different mostly unknown (by me) music.

I haven't acquired the set yet.

Alongside the main material, the set includes an additional music. The first piece is inspired by Steve Hackett's "Horizons" from Genesis's Foxtrot album. Interestingly, Hackett's work itself draws from Bach's Prelude from Suite No. 1 in G major, BWV 1007...
