Setting up a late Christmas gift that just arrived.  :)  My wife got me a beautiful Tivoli Audio disc player for my office, which is where I spend most of my time listening to music.

Ooh, I like the looks of that machine! Especially now that I think the Bose Wave Radio CD players may be no more. (I could be wrong about that.)

Yes, there are two basic formats to save journal articles: epub and pdf. Epubs require an additional app to read them, so I always download the pdf, but we live in the age of infinite storage, and humanitarian academics, in particular, are known for their digital hoarding - like a dragon, but that can easily spiral out of control and can lead to blocking, burnout, and procrastination, and I'm trying not to fall into that trap, hence, my reorganization. :)

Cool!  So are they now making again CD wifi players or is this something different?  I see now that it shows "BT"?

It has CD, AM/FM radio, and bluetooth capability. I'm listening now via bluetooth some recordings I purchased on Presto that haven't arrived yet (physical copy).  :)

As a recovering academic in physical sciences, folders on the computer stuffed with pdf reprints are familiar to me, but more insidious are drawers full of hardcopy printouts with notes scribbled in the margins...

Lol, yeah, I get to see that whenever someone retires in our department. You can definitely see a generational split when y8ou look at our offices.

I'm one of the youngest professors in the department, and the only books (really any paper product whatsoever) there was left by the person who held my office before.

The only "Kevin" addition, essentially, to the office is my laptop. (I used to be a big book person, but now I pretty  much read all of my work books online - I still read my fun books in physical form, but I keep my work and life as rigidly separate as I can.

Ask me about my collection of recipes (printouts, magazines, and books)!  I spent quite some time organizing my mostly PDFs (some screen shots and some photos) of recipes into folders and categories--tagging them as best as I could.  Now, what to do with all of the printouts?  It's hard to bring a computer into the kitchen to use and I don't have anything like Siri or Alexa, so a printout (or magazine/book) is the easiest route for me (plus computers also require passwords after a while).

Sigh....

I was trying to convince a friend to buy one; she and her husband wanted something to play their small collection of CDs on [This was back when they were $600 and played CDs and had internet radio.].  She thought that it was way too expensive (yet she would spend $200 on a pair of shoes).   :(  We all have our logic.

@Franco_Manitobain So, how do you like your Tivoli (I realize that it's still early days yet)?  I remember being interested in the one that I saw.  Was particularly interested in it as I loved the idea of being able to listen to different radio stations from around the world.  :)

K

p.s.  Removed the ornaments from the Christmas tree and boxed them up.  Lights are still up and are on.  Will probably remove them tomorrow.  Saturday, the tree goes off to be shredded.

I just discovered this website. It's a diagram showing to what depths sea creatures can go. Absolutely fascinating - and a little mind-blowing. Watch out for how deep Elephant Seals can go!

This evening I've been sitting reading Philip Roth's novel The Plot Against America, while Samantha Fish concerts play on YouTube on my TV.

I've read a lot of Roth, but not for a long while. I recall American Pastorale as his most remarkable book. The Human Stain is also outstanding.

Listening to some Billy Joel.  Enjoyed reintroducing a friend to some of his music (who said that they hated it previously).  He did enjoy this video (trying to figure out where to go from here).  Do watch the video; it's brilliant.  It's from a concert.

Any ideas?
