I have seen the PHQ live five times, one of my favorite active groups. Yes, Ivo Kahanek is contemporary; he's done a box of the complete Dvorak piano music, an album of Dvorak and Martinu concertos, and a wonderful mixed recital of Janacek, Kabelac, and Martinu solo pieces (including a Janacek world premiere!).

Just counted the Ancerl Gold Edition volumes I have: fifteen individual volumes, the 4CD box set that ended the series, and I plan to order the Mahler 9 and Hindemith concertos some time.

What is the Janacek premiere of and was it a piece finished by someone else or an early one, or...?

Correct - an early work, three study fugues.

I think I'll put this album on tomorrow...

It is on CD - I just can't find an image of that cover....

I own it on CD and here it is:

There's also this issue of it:

I found this one, too:

I'll take a shot at this --- here are some of my favorite Supraphon recordings (in no particular order):

All of the Dvořák color boxes (symphonic, orchestral, SQs et. al.)

+1 for many of these recommendations. I'll add the following Dvorak releases which, imo have not been surpassed since:

The Requiem and Stabat Mater have been done (also on Supraphon ) by Ancerl and Smetacek respectively and still dominate the catalogue. Most people know them as DGG releases however.

And finally, this one which is in a league of its own:

I didn't know that Sawallisch has conducted the Czech Phil.

I have a mixed feeling about the Ancerl Gold Edition. Sometimes the recordings sound like a pseudo stereo with all the instruments spread wide. Do some people feel the same or rather like the sound? Of course this happens to many remasterings, not only Supraphon, in this century.

For a separate question, one may wonder if the remastering in this century really/generally improved the sound.

Oh yes. There was even a box set:

Which Gold Edition discs?

I've read complaints about it before, but I can't think of a single example from personal experience of the Gold Edition.

Yes, I have many of those CDs.  I think that it would be helpful for others as to why you like them  [to MI]. :)

I don't really have a sophisticated or elegant response other than I like the music and I have an immense interest in these particular composers. I suppose I should add Novák to this list as I do like many of his works and rather enjoy several of the recordings I have of his music on Supraphon.

Just wanted to add that you can often stream multiple editions of Supraphon titles, so you can compare "Crystal Collection", "Postage Stamp" and Ancerl Gold editions of some recordings, e.g. Le Sacre du Printemps:

Crystal Collection: https://open.qobuz.com/album/lq2sfvqydgdva

I only have twelve Supraphone recordings in my library.

Nine of them are dedicated to the music of Martinu.

I have attached a printout of all of my Supraphone recordings.

I like all of them.

My favorite maybe the one with the:
Halftime
Bagarre
Intermezzo
Thunderbolt
Rock

I will respond to the question next month as I'm currently traveling abroad.
