Quote from: Kalevala on January 14, 2025, 02:25:07 PMWho is James G. Rickards (which came up when you posted this)?  Busy making dinner and don't feel like googling...sorry.

Back to dinner

Rickards is one of a large number of financial doomsters who predict recessions all the time, apparently on the notion that if one happens they are right about something.

I have taken up Open Univesity in the UK and have opted to study History.  Part of a recent assignment under the arts and humanities was to break down the first 6 minutes of Mozarts Rondo K382, and to discuss the progession of the music, it's format, timbre, changes, etc, in the piece.  It's amazing what Mozart could pack into 6 minuites.  Even the whole of Beethoven 5 would be much simpler in deconstruction.  :o

I'm re-watching some of my favorite reaction videos, with an eye towards posting a " Best of 2024 " list sometime soon.

Well, that's neat!  I hadn't heard of it before now.  Kudos to you!

Quote from: Franco_Manitobain on January 06, 2025, 04:24:17 PMSetting up a late Christmas gift that just arrived.  :)  My wife got me a beautiful Tivoli Audio disc player for my office, which is where I spend most of my time listening to music.

Well, unfortunately. Returning for a refund. There was an odd sound coming out when the lower registers (bass) would occur. Not always, but here and there. Not so much "distortion", but almost like a vibration (think of a window sort of rattling from a loud blast of thunder outside). I thought perhaps at first if I put a blanket underneath the player (as a cushion), it might "absorb" this effect, but no.

So, returning it and going to be looking for something else. It's too bad because I really did like the look and feel, and it sounded great (except for that issue), but it definitely isn't an issue I can live with.

Thus, I am back to "The Thing That Cannot be Killed!", my wife's old cheap 1999 Philips/Magnavox boom box, for which I have played countless and countless hours of music on (and never failed).

At the school where I teach, we have a special short interim period where the students get to take fun classes. I've been teaching Origami.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out.  Do you think that it could have been that particular item (vs. the model)?

It could very well be, but we'll try and look for something else.

Sounds like a damaged woofer.

I hear a vague honking noise when I watch TV in my living room. It is distracting in frequency but subtle. I don't know if it is a squeaky spring in my recliner or a problem with the soundbar. I've decided to switch to the TV output and see if I still hear it. This has nothing to do with your post, I was just reminded of it.

Most likely is. And strange (at least to me) that this woofer is situated underneath the unit. Perhaps it is designed more for greater bass impact for things like rock, pop, rap, hip-hop.

Just finished eight scrambled eggs. Now it's off to the grocery, I'm out of whiskey and wish to share a hot bath with some 80-proof.  ;D

Finally done with putting up with copaganda - just watched my very last copaganda episode today - the ending was so trash, an innocent black boy was killed, and it ends with the white Karen free, and the black parents calling for peace - that is completely and utter bullshit. Fuck the writers of that trash.

And I'll refrain from pointing them out.

I've cooled down now, so now - I'm just chilling, eating peanut butter m&m's. 8)
