Best piano version of Mussorgsky Pictures at an Exhibition

I have recently been searching for any version to top the live Richter shown without any success, almost all modern attempts fall well short.

I own the Sofia recital - both on Columbia "6-eyed" vinyl and on this transfer. The sound of the latter (PHILIPS CD) is quite cruel, drastically over-filtered.
Unfortunately, the LP with fantastic sonics (once criticized by Glenn Gould in his 'Prospects of Recording') doesn't contain the rest of the recital, only Mussorgsky's Pictures...

Bumping this topic. I was reading and listening to Camilla Wicks' recording of Sibelius' Violin Concerto which seems to be OOP.  >:(

The Biddulph issue is indeed  pretty unaffordable....  ::)

Perhaps check Japanese sources. I remember reading that EMI/Toshiba did a reissue with a brand new remastering.

Beaumarchais

I have just spent a couple of very interesting hours going through this great thread that contains so many old favourites. As has been mentioned, the choices are subjective which is obviously true. However, certain performances seem to hit all the right buttons and may well have 'legendary' status. Being a fan of old recordings, I have a number that might fit that description but one in particular that is definitely legendary is
the 1935 Koussevitzky/ Boston Symphony Orchestra Naxos CD of the Sibelius 2nd Symphony that  maintains the structural integrity of the music within a truly thrilling rendition of this great masterwork.
I have various other recordings of it which are all enjoyable but this must surely be the definitive version: heartbreakingly beautiful, gripping and an overwhelming musical experience.
