That's great. Don't make other people's problems your own. If someone's actions are annoying, ignore list works.

Quote from: ritter on July 03, 2024, 11:35:01 AMPhrases like "the character is sick". Let's please not engage in that kind of name calling. Thanks!

Most likely the meaning of what I wanted to say got lost in translation. If someone complains endlessly about everyone and everything, they probably need professional help.

Shouldn't the personal attacks, already called out, be also deleted?

If the OP's grievance of "anonymous complaint" isn't related in any shape or form to that specifically named and attacked GMG member, why should these attacks still be there for all to read and potentially wrongly conclude that said member (or more generally, any member for that matter) is the cause of the grievance when it isn't the case?

And if there is indeed a connection, shouldn't they be deleted anyway as this moderation matter would be dealt with privately with all parties involved? Are the attacks left readable to make a point?

It might be down to an ongoing moderators discussion but I thought I'd raise the point.

I think the concept of "personal attack" is rather vague and is interpreted quite loosely on the forum. I see forum members attacking each other quite often. There doesn't seem to be anything lethal about it, or has someone already died as a result?

On the other hand, why not set a clear limit on the number of complaints? One complaint per month, and preferably a paid one, sounds reasonable 8)

The discussion (that ensued from the OP) around a member who has not participated in this thread, has been deleted.

We repeat our request to all GMGers to refrain from posting personal attacks on the forum, or from turning threads into virtual public lynching exercises.

Thanks. I know how to cope with it.

Mild personal attacks wouldn't count as such imo. You only hurt yourself when you start to become graver and put things in a direct way. Look the other way and keep your light shining. Nietzsche advices so and it's a good advice imo.

Here is the quote (from 'The Joyful Science')

321.

'A New Precaution.—Let us no longer think so much about punishing, blaming, and improving! We shall seldom be able to alter an individual, and if we should succeed in doing so, something else may also succeed, perhaps unawares: we may have been altered by him! Let us rather see to it that our own influence on all that is to come outweighs and overweighs his influence! Let us not struggle in direct conflict!—all blaming, punishing, and desire to improve comes under this category. But let us elevate ourselves all the higher! Let us ever give to our pattern more shining colours! Let us obscure, the other by our light! No! We do not mean to become darker ourselves on his account, like those who punish and are discontented! Let us rather go aside! Let us look away!'
