Yankee fan here.  Always have been, even before I lived in NYC.  I keep hoping our bats come alive at some point.  Tonight's game against Detroit had so many missed opportunities.

My three favorite Baseball teams are the Rangers, Braves and which ever team is playing the Yankees.  ;)

I have followed the Rangers and would go to Dallas to visit my son and try to time the trip when the Yanks were there (he now lives in San Francisco).  Ranger stadium is a really good park. 

National league teams I've followed have been the Astros and Cardinals.

This year, I'm hoping for the Nationals and Yankees.

Ranger's park is nice, I havent been to the Astros home, also looks nice, maybe I will soon as my father lives i Houston now.

After the amazing come-back the Yankees made, thanks again to Raul Ibanez, losing Jeter is much worse than losing the game in 12.

This post season will prematurely give Yankee fans a taste of the inevitable future when Jeter retires.

I'm not a Yankees fan, but I hated seeing Jeter go down. They still have a good lineup, but this will hurt in more ways than just him missing from the field.

The real series starts this evening at Candlestick "AT&T Park" in San Francisco. Just imagine: real baseball being played!

I well remember the 1989 series between Oakland and SF - and of course the earthquake.  Deja Vu?  Like I said I am hoping for the Yanks to make it in; against any NL team.  The Giants would be okay.

I miss the adventures of the popup at Candlestick, where a .198 hitter can be just as deadly as a cleanup hitter.

And proudly so, even though back in the '60s my favorite teams were the Giants, the Cardinals, and the Yankees -- and of course the Dodgers' pitching staff! If the American League started playing baseball again, I see no reason I couldn't like some of those teams (but not the Yankees -- far too many sins over the past few decades).

In the year the Dodgers won in the shortened season, the top of the order-- Davey Lopes and Bill Russell both hit around 200 for the season but were two of the most efficient hitters with their popups in Candlestick.

Now that Baltimore is out, my room at the Hilton overlooking Camden Yard is starting to look a bit expensive...

Man, you're old.  With Garvey and the Penguin, that was one of the greatest infields in history. But I still loved my Padres back then. Ozzie was probably the greatest fielding SS ever!

Hard to disagree with the defensive piece, but I would take these two before him:

 

For the record, my four three favorite teams are:

Orioles (the team I loved as a kiddo), Rockies (they're our home team), Expos (team I watched live as a kiddo), and of course, whoever is playing the Yankees. ;)

Watching the Expos back in the 70's I saw all your favorite Dodgers come through, Paul.

Agreed. I hate the Yankees, but Jeter is pure class.  I enjoy Girardi as well.  Loved watching him play during his stint with the Rockies.

Oh well.  I have been a Yankee fan since I was a kid playing little league.  I was 9 years old during the Mantle-Maris home run race in 1961 and have been hooked ever since.

I grew up, for the most part, in up state NY, so all my buddies were Yank fans.  I even have two that live in Colorado. :D  When I say I hate the Yankees you have to remember it is all in fun (though not so much when I was a kid).  In fact, when they are not around for the post-season, it almost feels odd.

The one player from back then I could never understand having a job was Mickey Kelleher (sp?), of the Detroit Tigers and later Angels. He was a "defensive specialist" hitting about .212. Now, he is not spectacular. Never made great defensive stops. Can hardly hit. Does not steal bases. I don't think he is defensively that much better than other serviceable infielders like a Rob Wilfang, U.L. Washington, Jack Perconte, etc. What is the point of having him on the roster? Late inning defensive replacement and occasional starter? Most minor leaguers can do that, and may add a bit more like base stealing and hitting. Well, Jr. changed the whole perception of SS as a defensive position. Ozzie became a much better hitter in St. Louis. Then there is Jeter. Now we actually expect SS to hit, ran, in addition to defense.
