Cats, and not just cats, being looked after by Ukrainian troops and how comforting having the animals with them is...therapy animals for those who have been wounded too.

Augh!  Too funny and sweet.  Kitten meets dog.  Dog is like "What!?  Then new puppy comes along. 🤣😊

So much that humans can learn from animals.

Kitty gets stuck in drainpipe in North Sommerset.  It was rescued by firefighters.  Will cat try and do this one again???  Hopefully not!

Fazi and Zeus would never be able to leave a Christmas tree and ornaments alone, so this is what passes for a tree in our house this year!

But, it's hard to get mad at such cuties!

The other day we found them snuggled together under the sheet and blanket on our bed! Unfortunately, I didn't have my phone with me.

Oh, nooooo!  Cute as "the tree" is, awww!  :(  I did see a creative solution (at least it's worked for one person).  They put a flexible tunnel around the base of their tree.  From what I recall, the cats would go into the tunnel, but it blocked them from climbing up the trunk.

No cats at the moment, but I did put the former ones pawprints on my tree.  Before they were cremated, one of the kind vet techs would put their paws into some sort of a clay-like substance, write their names underneath them (with a sweet heart) and then would bake the discs.  I came up with an idea:  I bought some narrow satin ribbon (probably about a half an inch or less) in a couple of different colors.  I then cut the ribbon long enough so that I could glue it in two places on the back of the disc and long enough to be able to slip over a fir's branch.  You need to glue it in two places so that it hangs properly (= doesn't flop forward).  I first tried using a hot glue gun, but discovered when I hung one of them on a hook in a room that faces straight south, that the ribbon was coming off [Luckily, I noticed that before it fell and broke.]!  I then redid the arrangement using Gorilla Glue.  So they keep me company and I remember the good times and privilege of having them in my life.

Anyway, so remind me, is Zeus the one with the "lightening bolt" on his forehead (the black and white one)?

Enjoy them!

Yes, Zeus is the tuxedo cat. When we euthanized Lucy and Ethel, the vet offered paw prints and their ashes, but I couldn't bear the thought. I'm glad your clay imprints bring you some comfort. I still have occasional breakdowns over Lucy and Ethel over a year later. I'm really good at torturing myself with agonizing memories, such as their final visits (3 months apart) to the vet. :'(

So, what did you do?  Have them cremated with other cats or decide to bury them yourself?  Or didn't pick up the ashes (One person at a vet's shared that sometimes owners don't pick them up and how they tried to be respectful to the pet.)?

It's hard, I know.  I still miss mine.  I'm sure that you tried your best to look after them.  Enjoying the ones that you have does not mean that you've forgotten and/or no longer appreciate/love the ones that came first.

Best,

They were cremated and we did not want the ashes. (We told them that--we didn't simply not pick them up.)

Oh, I know, but sometimes I feel that we dishonored/betrayed Lucy and Ethel by getting new kitties, but numerous friends tried to peruade me that the opposite was true, not to mention we gave Fazi and Zeus a wonderful home. Who knows what kind of home they could have received? Intellectually, that all makes sense, but emotionally it's still hard.

I didn't mean any disrespect in terms of you possibly not deciding to pick them [ashes--if you had decided to go that way] up.  My impressions, when talking to a very kind and senior member of the vet's team [not a tech, but someone who answered a lot of my questions and helped my cats and me over the years] was the thought that it was too painful for some people/owners to pick up the ashes.  She told me that after X amount of time, she would spread the ashes in a field of wildflowers.  From what I recall, the ashes of various pets, were kept on a shelf over her desk.

I don't feel disrespected at all. The idea of keeping a loved one's ashes is simply horrifying to me! I know it brings some people comfort/closure, but not me.

Two of my mom's cats used to sometimes snuggle and we also took a picture although the picture is not available to me anymore.
