Getting into February, I start looking forward to spring and getting out in the garden. Unfortunately, as the weather has reminded me lately, I live in New England. Tt's a windy day with ice on the ground and a big snowstorm in the forecast for Saturday.
  Walking around after filling the birdfeeders, I did notice some rabbit damage on a sumac sapling that didn't have protection. Not a big deal since sumac colonizes underground and needs to be restrained anyway.
  One thing I was able to take care of today was sorting out my seeds. I've accumulated many over the years, so I take samples of the older ones and put them in moist trays to check for germination. Those that are no longer viable are discarded, and I plant those that are still okay first.
