Quote from: Spotted Horses on May 23, 2024, 08:11:34 AMThat's what I used to do. Actually I would turn a disk backwards in the box once listened, since I wouldn't necessarily go through it in order.

Oh that is clever.  I don't take the Mozart Edition in order, so perhaps I should do that...

Quote from: DavidW on May 23, 2024, 07:42:27 AMSame here, I prefer big sets on cd.  Mostly because it is easier to navigate and I also like to gradually work my way through them by moving the one I listened to the back of the box if that makes sense.
I started that with one box, then got distracted by other listening projects, came back to it for a specific recording, and was very confused by what I'd done.  ;D

Backwards sounds much better!

I noticed something about Qobuz. If you buy something in high resolution and download it in standard resolution (CD quality) using their download app it does not retrieve a CD quality file from its server. It downloads the high resolution file to your hard disc and converts it to standard resolution on your computer. This strikes me as non-ideal, because who knows if Qobuz has the best algorithm for noise-shaping, etc, to make an ideal standard resolution master. On the other hand, maybe you only purchased standard resolution and if you are clever you can make some sort of script to pinch the high resolution files before they are cleared.

Well if you don't trust them, do your own conversion.

If you're buying high quality in the first place, and for some reason want a downgraded version, then control your own downgrade.

I would prefer to trust the record label to produce the best standard resolution master, not whatever is in the Qobuz downloader or whatever is in some software I have on my computer. In the majority of cases, when I buy standard resolution, the same consideration would apply if the Qobuz downloader does conversion to standard resolution on the fly.

When you buy standard resolution, yes.
