The first idea for the security enforcer/device proved both impractical, and comic in appearance. And then one day McGoohan looked up and happened to see weather balloons.

The face being suffocated by the balloon is my earliest memory of the show, and it's never left my brain.

Add that sound effect, and what should be kinda silly -- a dude running away from a giant balloon - is terrifying.

The Rockford Files (1974-1980)
James Garner, Noah Beery Jr., Joe Santos

I have really enjoyed catching up with this series again. I'm only able to watch an episode here and there, maybe one before work or one before bed, but each one of them is dynamite.

I consider it one of those older series I'm sorry I waited so long to revisit.

Enjoyed the first two episodes of The Prisoner.

Still hate those white balls though!

Must admit, I don't believe that I've ever seen one character--No. 6---so relentlessly doped up, slipped a mickey...what have you!  Currently working on episode 5:  "The Schizoid Man" of The Prisoner.

I was surprised after the third episode (I think it was) WARNING SPOILER ALERT!

that they didn't let him go after seeing that his envelope only contained vacation information.  ???

I have now watched the first 3 1/2 eps of Northern Exposure. Somehow I never got around to watching it back in the day.

The main character (Rob Morrow?) is generally insufferable, as is his will-they-won't-they enemies-to-lovers lady interest, but the show has a lot of fun side characters like the leather-jacket-wearing Ed and Ed's medicine man uncle. And we haven't gotten a lot of John Corbett yet, but he's always watchable.

Quote from: hopefullytrusting on September 18, 2024, 07:16:27 PMOkay, I just finished the first season of Burn Notice. It is a cozy show. The relational dynamics between the three leads is excellent, and it also feels very real. There was almost no romance, so that was awesome, and the romance scenes weren't unreasonable.

But, it has a fatal flaw, but the flaw isn't unique to the show, in fact, most media possesses this flaw, so it might not even bother you, but there is no danger, and the "good" guys always win. It is why I find LotR to be unwatchable trash.

Overall, I was happy to have watched the first season, but I will not watch beyond it nor will it stay in my collection, but I would recommend watching it - the writing is tight, the acting well done, the sets are beautiful beyond belief - I didn't laugh while watching, but I chuckled, but mainly I smiled at how adorably, cute the relationship was between the main three (pitch perfect casting).

Bruce Campbell is always worth seeing.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2002)
Tatiana Maslany, Tim Roth
Mark Ruffalo, Mark Linn-Baker

I had no expectation for this one; probably the best approach.

Hadn't thought of Mark Linn-Baker since the 80s show Perfect Strangers, where he played opposite Bronson Pinchot.

I'm hoping to start on this on Monday:

I'm a huge fan of Gaiman's Sandman graphic novels, so definitely looking forward to watching this, especially since Gaiman has had a hand in producing this TV series.

Oh, he is in the show!?  I haven't seen him in anything else. I might watch this then, especially since it is a sitcom where he shines. I still remember the theme song to Perfect Strangers and, of course, the Dance of Joy...

It is a very small role, but nostalgia rushed hard and fast. I think he has been working behind the camera and on stage shows, as I can't think of anything I have seen him in either.

I recently finished watching the much-more-interesting/entertaining-than-I-thought-it-was-going-to-be SAS Rogue Heroes. A rollercoaster, eye-watering drama based on Ben Macintyre's account of the formation of the British Army's Special Forces unit in WWII.
Some larger-than-life, quasi-insane characters people a visionary unit of small groups of hardened soldiers using guerrilla-like tactics to surprise and inflict significant damage on Rommel's advance across North Africa. An idea dreamt up and implemented by the man leading them in the desert, Lieutenant David Stirling. He and others share highly witty and competitive interactions, often deeply-felt relationships in the face of daring and bloodthirsty exploits and their own inner traumas. Connor Swindells as Stirling is particularly good, but is also surrounded by an excellent gallery of convincingly acted and charismatic characters.

Edited to add: The soundtrack is also excellent, with contributions from the likes of ACDC, Black sabbath and The Clash, which may sound ridiculous for a drama set in WWII, but really works in context, and is accompanied by the more period-appropriate  George Formby, Arthur Askey et al.

Quote from: DavidW on September 15, 2024, 07:12:36 AMI started Inspector Morse. It had been so long that I remembered him as an old alcoholic who listened to classical music. Now, I see him as a middle-aged alcoholic who listens to classical music. ;D

I watched the first mystery, The Dead of Jericho, which I also read the novel back in the day. That was eighteen years ago! I only remembered the phone book and the phone book. I forgot everything.
