Musikalische Frühlingsfrüchte.
German Chamber music of the 17th Century.
See details on the back cover.
CordArte.
Recorded 2005 at the Deutschlandfunk Kammermusiksaal, Köln, Germany.

The collection "Musikalische Frühlingsfrüchte" (Musical Spring Fruits) by the director of the Hamburg Ratsmusik Dietrich Becker is in its conception a marvel to listen to. CordArte juxtapose this selection of sonatas with several examples by Becker's contemporaries and successors, which beautifully documents the blossoming of the North German stylus phantasticus in the second half of the 17th century. The composers around Buxtehude gathered here do not yet indulge in Roman classicism à la Corelli in their chamber music works, but rather fascinate with their rhapsodic compositional style in places. Well recorded. Very much recommended.

Carlo Farina, (Mantova, ca. 1600–Vienna, 1639)

CONSORT MUSIC
Dresden 1627 From 3rd book of 1627 (Pavane, Galliarde, Correnti, Brandi, Volte, Arie Francesi)
Accademia del Ricercare, Pietro Busca.

That a fine disc, with music by Farina, not a composer that is often recorded, and actually almost forgotten. But at least this performance provides one with a quality interpretation, and ditto sound. Enjoyed this one very much.

Interesting release, not yet on Qobuz, but I keep a close watch on it. But I noticed that Qobuz has precious few releases in the streaming site.

Giovanni Battista Fontana (1571-1630).

Sonate a violino ed altri strumenti....
See back cover for details.
Stradivaria, (Ensemble Baroque de Nantes) Daniel Cuiller.
Enregistrement réalisé à la Chapelle de l'Immaculée, à Nantes, 2011.

I am spoiled for choice, so many fine recordings, so many excellent interpretations, such good recordings, knowledgeable musicians, period instruments, dedication, it's all here for the take. Last CD today. pressing obligations follow me like an ill wind....I would rather listen 24 hours a day!

That's Mike Dutton ploughing a lone no-downloads/no streaming furrow again.....  I can't imagine the label (very sadly...) can last long with such a contrarian position.

Came across Julian Cochran, so I am listening to all I can find of that today - very reminiscent of Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninoff, and the like, so if you like tonal piano music, you'll probably like this composer:

(I believe all of his recorded works are available, for free, on Spotify.)
