Prokofiev – 6 Operas

This is a big noise in the most wonderful way; no wonder the composer found the repeated failures to bring it to the stage vexatious.

(There's a geeky way in which I am enjoying the use of my newly-improved familiarity with some of the material via the Third Symphony.  But the whole piece is a great blast of a night at the theatre.)

From Disc 1, an exquisite Marian anthem:

Titz, Anton Ferdinand (1742-1810) - String Quartets, Vols. 2/3 w/ Hoffmeister Quartet on period instruments; from 1771, Titz was employed in the Imperial Court of St. Petersburg - a recommendation from Gurn in the classical thread -  :D

You know, the juxtaposition of Tallis and Prokofiev is every bit as woolly (in a gratifying way) as that of Gesualdo & Stravinsky.

And about time I listened to this one, really:

Prokofiev – 6 Operas

Saw it five times LIVE and it remains my favorite of all Prokofiev operas!

I picked up a disc of Kalman highlights a year or so ago, because Kalman seemed like someone I would like. Well, I have finally gotten around to giving the disc a proper listen and what a discovery! Lovely tunes, wonderful singing and great panache!
Be kind to your fellow posters!!
